Family Newsletter 11/10

Posted Date: 11/09/25 (04:30 PM)

Hello Highlander Families,

Next week brings a well-deserved long weekend for students and staff! There will be no school on Monday, November 10 for grading day and professional development, and no school on Tuesday, November 11 in observance of Veterans Day.
When we return, it’ll be a short and busy week:

  • Wednesday: Early Release – A Day
  • Thursday: B Day + Advisory
  • Friday: A Day
Enjoy the extended weekend, take time to rest, and thank a veteran for their service. We’ll see everyone back on campus Wednesday, ready to finish out November strong!

GO NORTH! 🖤❤️💛

Ruby Bridges Walk to School Day - Nov 14
We want to invite you to join us for our annual Ruby Bridges Walk to School Day on FRIDAY, November 14th.
As in years past, we’ll gather at 7:30 a.m. to hear inspiring speeches from our BSU leadership team before we set off together.

Afterward, we’ll grab our signs and megaphones and march in support—down Silver Lane, across River Road, toward Maxwell, back across River Road, up Silver Lane, and returning to North.

We’ve always had a fantastic turnout, and we’d love to see an even bigger crowd this year! Please invite your students, clubs, sports teams, affinity groups, families, neighbors, and friends to join us in this celebration of courage and community.

NORTH REGION COMMUNITY NEWS
Corridor Production of The Wizard of Oz coming to NEHS

Hello patrons of North Eugene Theater! Registration for this year's Corridor Program is now open!

This is our fifth Corridor Production, an annual performance that will bring together elementary, middle, and high school students in the North Eugene district. The program is open to all 4th through 8th-grade students in the North region.

This winter, we're producing The Wizard of Oz (Youth Edition), licensed through Concord theatricals.

This year we're moving auditions forward to the week of December 8th, and rehearsals begin January 6th. Rehearsals run Monday through Thursday, 4 p.m. to 5:45 p.m. Our work will culminate in three live performances: February 26th and 27th at 6 pm, and February 28th at 1 pm. Show tickets are $10. Registration is open now and closes at the end of the month.

This program is free of charge, thanks to a generous grant from the Corridor Parent Teacher Association.

Directors Tim Wilcox and Aaron Thomas will lead NEHS drama students, who will serve as acting coaches, vocal coaches, choreographers, and tech crew. They will be mentors and demonstrate what it’s like to be in high school theater.

The production enhances exploration in drama, builds community, and creates a feeder program to support the dramatic arts in North Eugene.

Please reach out to Aaron Thomas at thomas_a@4j.lane.edu for more information.

This production comes courtesy of Concord Theatricals of New York.

Auditions are December 8th through the 12th

Over 48 hours, they’ll collaborate to create a solution and present their projects to a panel of judges with a chance to win great prizes. No prior experience is needed, making this a great opportunity for all students!

Students can register as part of a team or individually to be matched with others. The event is FREE and will be held in person at Spark at Booth-Kelly in Springfield.

Better Eugene-Springfield Transportation (BEST) Updates

Changes are going to happen on River Road, and Better Eugene-Springfield Transportation (BEST) wants these changes to reflect what you and our community needs. In two town halls and two walk audits, Smart Growth America will share how other cities have transformed their own streets and listen to your experiences on River Road. Smart Growth America is a national nonprofit who works to create communities that are prosperous, resilient, and well-connected to essential destinations no matter how you choose to get around. These November 13th events kick off a months-long process where BEST will gather community perspectives on the challenges and celebrations of River Road and Highway 99. Your perspectives will be shared back to help guide the City’s and LTD’s upcoming plans for these two corridors.

The YMCA is collaborating with HOOTS (Helping Out Our Teens in Schools) to offer a community presentation, “Empowering Parents to Support Youth Mental Health.” This session will provide valuable insight into the current trends we are seeing in youth mental health and suicidality, along with practical tools to help adults support youth in crisis.

While their trusted adult attends the presentation, teens are invited to enjoy our facility with a complimentary guest pass.
We would be so grateful if you could help us spread the word by sharing the attached flyer and event details with enrolled families and including the information in your upcoming newsletters or parent communications, if possible.
